HERE'S THE THING...

Column #2: "Behind The Scenes"

In life we learn that there are going to be times where things aren't always going to be as they seem and we quickly become familiar with the feeling of being lied to or deceived. I'm sure most of us would like to believe that we live in a perfect world that is fair and honest, but the harsh reality is our world is far from perfect. It no longer matters how hard you work or how good you are at something. In today's society your success is based more on who and what you know in the industry you are in. It has been my experience that it is a good idea to observe everything and say nothing, pay attention so that you can learn but try not to speak in order to avoid any misunderstandings.

I like to think myself to be a fairly honest person. I was raised in a very southern household, and was taught to work hard and treat others with respect. My parents believed that if you worked hard and were a good person that you could get whatever you wanted in life. Well, my parents didn't live in Los Angeles! Not that I'm saying they are wrong but it is a totally different story here than it is in Wilmington, North Carolina.
There are thousands of people here who want to climb to the top and are willing to lie, cheat, and steal just to get ahead. This is something I learned after being here for only a few short weeks. Now that I am aware of those people I try to keep them at arms length in order to watch my back. I didn't take it that seriously in the beginning because I had nothing to loose, but I have spent nearly a year building my career and working to get to the point I'm at today and I refuse to let anyone take that away from me.

In the industry that I work in it is common to encounter problems with directors and even other models. Some directors are greedy when it comes to models and will swipe them away from other companies by offering more money or exposure, and even sometimes sign them to their company in order to keep the same thing from happening to them. There are also occasions where some directors will avoid using a model due to personal problems with companies or directors he's worked with in the past. I mean, come on -- what does that have to do with the model’s ability to perform or deliver in front of the camera? I would think that they would be more concerned about the quality of the model and his performance than they would about his history in the business. His performance is what’s going to sell the product. I know there are a lot of things I look for when buying a gay porn and the model’s bio is definitely not one of them. I am more concerned about how hot the guys are and how big their dicks grow to be. Call me old fashion but it's the sex that sells me the video!

Now it's not only the directors and companies who are shady, there are a lot of sneaky and manipulative models who will sell you out in a minute if they think it'll get them ahead in the industry. It is a good idea to keep your guard up when around these shady bitches. It is
natural in the gay community to want to gossip about others, but in this industry the boys tend to take it one step farther. Not only will they be more than happy to share your business with everyone but they will also take it upon themselves to add their own spin on the story. It is actually quite humorous to see how much they can twist a story to fit their own cruel intentions. You quickly learn that most models are only concerned about one person and that is them. If it seems like a boy is doing something to help you I can guarantee he has his own selfish reasons for doing it.

There is going to be shady people in every type of business. Rather your an accountant or a porn star, trust me they are out there. To survive it is important to trust your own instincts, listen to others opinions but don't let them influence the decisions you make. Take every bad experience as a lesson and learn from it. This will keep you from making the same mistake twice and allow you to move up without having to step on someone else. Although it may seem very hard to be the bigger person in today’s society, it is always the better way to go.

You may get further by selling out and stepping on people but being the better person will be looked upon a lot better by your karma in the long run… don't you think?
